The Area
Costa Blanca - Costa Calida
The Costa Blanca, is situated on the South East coast of Spain to the North of the Costa Calida, and is known as the "White Coast”, and is a favourite holiday destination for Europeans and the Spanish themselves.

The area from Alicante in the North, and then southwards to the Mar Menor is a region of contrasting landscapes and rugged coastline covering every aspect of Spanish life from bustling, cosmopolitan towns to traditional Spanish villages.

All of the beaches in Alicante Province have been passed fit for bathing in the latest water quality report from the EU Environment Commission. Spanish beaches are far and away the best in the EU. The whole of the UK has only four blue flag beaches - the same number as Torrevieja!

The area has a superb climate with over 300 days of sunshine a year, and the average temperature is around 20 degrees. It is also a very healthy, dry climate as there is no heavy industry in the area, and the salt lagoons draw the moisture from the air, making the climate ideal for people with arthritis, psoriasis and asthma. The benefits are almost immediate, and is the main reason that the World Health Organisation recommend it as one of the healthiest places in Europe to live.

Of course the climate also allows for all year round activities such as sailing, diving, golf to name but a few. There are numerous 18 hole championship golf courses located throughout the area with many more planned. From La Marquesa and La Finca close to Guardamar, through to Las Ramblas, Villamartin and Campoamor at Orihuela Costa, and southwards to the courses in the Mar Menor and Murcia regions such as the Sucina Golf & Country Club.

Costa Calida
The Costa Calida is in the southeast of Spain, idyllically situated by the Mediterranean Sea, to the south of the Costa Blanca, in the region of Murcia. Here you will find one of the sunniest areas of Europe, with 320 sunny days a year. It is one of the most sought after Mediterranean areas. A paradise between two seas, it has immense treasures to offer to all. Apart from water sports and boating, bars, restaurants and an active nightlife, several golf courses are to be found in the area.

Throughout the area, there is a wealth of sporting facilities on offer. Discover scuba diving in the calm waters of the Mar Menor with a try dive or take a snorkling or diving trip with a PADI diving instructor as your guide at the La Manga Dive School. Three golf courses, seven football pitches used for training by teams from the European League and National teams, eighteen tennis courts, pitch and putt, cricket, squash, swimming pools, and gymnasium. For the less energetic there are shopping centres, hotels, a casino, a health and beauty centre, restaurants and bars among others. Skiing is only 2.5 hours away at the ski resorts in the Sierra Nevada.

The beaches stretch along the coastline on both sides of La Manga. For those who feel like relaxing on the beach, it is easy to find a pleasant spot on the soft sand. Or you can stroll along the beautiful and green promenades and enjoy the sun twinkling on the sea. If you need a break, you can sit at one of the many bars or restaurants along the promenade and enjoy a drink.

Murcia Province
The Province of Murcia, known as the 'orchard of Europe', is situated in the South east of Spain and is one of the most outstanding areas. With rugged countryside meeting the sea and forming the finest coastline in Spain makes it a popular holiday destination with the Spanish people. There are 155 miles of sandy beaches completely unspoilt by development. The local authority has resisted development and wants to maintain the Spanish way of life in the area.

Murcia is a province of outstanding contrasts, with beautiful unspoilt beaches and magnificent mountain ranges, growing every type of fruit and vegetable, with large fruit plantations and vineyards thriving here. It has its own airport and a large number of golf courses including the new 27 hole championship course of Mosa Trajectum just outside the city of Murcia, and four other courses due to built in the next two years, including two in the Valle del Sol, where there is a new championship bowling green which, it is claimed, is one of the best in Spain.

The Mar Menor caters for all water sports and provides some of the best beaches for sunbathing. Along its shoreline there are many excellent restaurants serving freshly caught fish.

The Mar Menor, Europe’s largest salt water lagoon, is famous for its black mud which is said to bring relief from many ailments from arthritis to eczema. There are also many health spas and thermal baths in the Province of Murcia. The road systems throughout the province are excellent, giving easy and quick access to all parts of Spain.

Further inland there are interesting towns such as Calasparra, famous for its rice and its unique cathedral built in a cave. Caravaca de la Cruz, believed to have more relics of the cross of Christ than anywhere else in the world, is a vibrant market town which enjoys some of the best fiestas in the province.

Archena and Fortuna just 30 minutes north of the city of Murcia, are famous for their health giving thermal baths. They are situated in an area of natural beauty, in the wooded valley of the River Segura.

The national park of Cala Blanca has been declared a conservation area and has some of the best preserved beaches in the whole of Spain, making it an ideal location for water sports.
